The 2011 NFL Draft is right around the corner and the staff at Mocking the Draft is working hard to bring you the most in depth information possible. We have spent countless hours reviewing college games in an attempt to produce scouting reports for each of the prospects. However, time is running out so we decided to release some scouting notes in order to cover a wider range of prospects.

After the jump you can check out the notes taken in order to come up with this final analysis. Be sure to check out our full scouting reports HERE. Also give us some feedback on whether or not these notes provide useful information.

Soine Fua
6’1, 308 pounds | Defensive tackle | Stanford

Final Word: Fua doesn’t have much versatility which really limits his potential. His best fit might be as a nose tackle in a 4-3 scheme as he has the anchor to play two gap football. The fact that he keeps his pads low and gets good hand placement allows him to hold at the point of attack. However, Fua will struggle to get a push on the pocket and penetrate. He will not provide a team with much of a pass rush and is often stoned at the line of scrimmage. His struggles to quickly locate the football hurts his ability to purse the ball carrier. Overall, Fua looks to be a late round prospect with little upside.

Soine Fua
6’1, 308 pounds | Defensive tackle | Stanford

Notes:

  • Fua does a nice job at firing off the ball low and remaining low throughout the play
  • He has a good strong base and combined with this low pad level it allows him to anchor
  • Fua gets good inside hand placement which helps him hold at the point
  • He struggles to get good push or drive off the line of scrimmage
  • Fua often is stonewalled at the line generating little push on the pocket
  • Once an offensive lineman is able to engage him the play is pretty much over for Fua
  • He doesn’t have the ability to disengage and work his way to the football
  • Fua has a tough time finding the football
  • Really doesn’t have the athleticism to penetrate or purse to the sideline
  • He doesn’t have the lateral quickness to be a factor on plays away from his frame
  • Just not an explosive player

He’s a bit of a liability in the run game, but his potential in the pass game was enough for Buffalo Rumblings.

It’s a high-potential pick for a Detroit defense that needs a solid pass rusher.
