Reigning MLS MVP David Ferreira reportedly suffered a broken ankle in FC Dallas' 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps at Empire Field on Saturday. Ferreira came out of the match in the 55th minute. This according to a Twitter post from MLSSoccer.com writer Matthew Doyle:
FC Dallas Midfielder David Ferreira Suffers Broken Ankle
FC Dallas confirm that David Ferreira suffered a fractured ankle in today's game. Awful news for the 2010 MVP and fans of the league.
The injury occurred in the process of a challenge from Vancouver defender Jonathan Leathers, though the tackle appeared clean and it would appear as though the injury might have come as a result of Ferreira's foot getting caught in the turf. It's unknown how long he might be out.
No matter the cause, this is a huge blow for FC Dallas and in the wake of Seattle Sounders midfielder Steve Zakuani's broken leg, this was as bad a weekend for injuries MLS has ever seen.
