In 2010, James Shields' 5.18 ERA was easily the highest among Tampa Bay's starting pitchers.
Rays Vs. Blue Jays: James Shields Throws Another 4-Hitter
Sunday afternoon in Toronto, Shields lowered his ERA to 2.35 with a four-hit shutout to beat the Blue Jays 2-0. It was Shields' second straight four-hitter, and he's the first Tampa Bay starter to win back-to-back complete games since Albie Lopez accomplished the feat in 2000.
All the scoring came in the first inning. Sam Fuld led off against Blue Jays starter Ricky Romero, and struck out. But Johnny Damon followed with a single, and Ben Zobrist homered to left field. The Rays wouldn't score again, and wouldn't need to.
It was a tough loss for Romero, who gave up only three more hits in his seven innings of work, and racked up 10 strikeouts.
Shields needed only 95 pitches to dispatch the Blue Jays. Last Wednesday against the White Sox, he threw 105 pitches in his four-hit, 4-1 victory.
Sam Fuld, who entered the game having struck out only six times all season, struck out four times Sunday.
