After the Cardinals' game Sunday night, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss posted this:
Albert Pujols Suffers ‘Mild’ Hamstring Strain
TLR says no gimme putt that Albert is available Tue in Houston: “We’re not going to push it.” AP suffered mild L hamstring strain Sun. nite.
Translation: Tony La Russa wasn't sure if Albert Pujols, who suffered a mild left hamstring strain, would be able to play in the Cardinals' next game, Tuesday night against the Astros.
At this point, any further speculation is pointless. If Pujols is out of the lineup, the obvious move is to slide Lance Berkman from right field to first base, and put Jon Jay in right field. La Russa also has Triple-A slugger Mark Hamilton at hand, but he's a real liability with the glove, whether at first base or in the outfield, and probably is last in line for real playing time.
Bottom line, the Cardinals won’t take any chances with their franchise player.
