This past Saturday saw several high-profile programs wrap the final practices of the school year with the college football fan’s equivalent of drinking vanilla extract in lieu of liquor: The annual spring game. SB Nation was everywhere the action was this weekend; read on for a collection of local reports from UCLA, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech scrimmages.
College Football 2011 Spring Games: Recaps & On-Scene Analysis
• UCLA wound up spring drills at Drake Stadium to little fanfare, but still-forming quarterback Richard Brehaut put on a respectable performance behind an injury-riddled, patchwork offensive line. Bruins Nation's fan on the scene enjoyed the emotion on display from the defense.
• Bucky’s 5th Quarter grades Wisconsin quarterbacks “F” after Saturday’s action, gives the defensive line an A-, and absorbs some more bad news in the form of sophomore quarterback Curt Phillips, who’s been ruled out for the entire 2011 season with another knee surgery on the horizon.
• Ohio State's offense came out ahead in one of those bizarro lopsided spring game scoring systems, as the Buckeyes struggled to find a set of offensive starters to fill in for the suspended Terrelle Pryor and his Tat Five Orchestra.
• Virginia Tech battled some offensive line woes of their own, and Gobbler Country blames unit cohesion and the coaches’ practice of splitting up the starters.
• From The Rumble Seat liked the seemingly prolific passing game on Saturday, but has concerns about the “soft”-looking second-team defense.
