Diamondbacks’ Willie Bloomquist Hits DL With Hamstring Injury

According to Greg Salvatore (who would know), the Arizona Diamondbacks have placed Willie Bloomquist on the Disabled List with a hamstring injury.

Bloomquist left last Thursday’s game with the injury and thought he would be able to play Saturday, but apparently was just a tad overoptimistic. He opened the season batting .394 (with six stolen bases) in his first seven games, but slumped to .200 (with one steal) in his next seven.

His hot start got him plenty of playing time in left field, most of which should revert back to Gerardo Parra. This isn't necessarily a great thing, as Parra's got 935 plate appearances in the majors that suggest he's not really a good enough hitter to play left field every day.

Then again, Parra essentially skipped Triple-A, he doesn’t turn 24 until next week, and he’s got a better chance than Bloomquist of being a good player in two years.

Or two months.
