This week we’re evaluating the best and worst top 10 picks in a 10-year span from 1999-2008. We capped this at 2008 because it’s unfair to judge first- or second-year players. Today, the pick two bust.
NFL Draft successes and busts 10-year evaluation: 2nd overall bust
Pick: Two overall
The player: Charles Rogers | Wide receiver | Detroit Lions (2003)
Charles Rogers, how sad. He was the next Randy Moss but stronger. He was Andre Johnson before Andre Johnson. At Michigan State, Rogers was dominant. It's rare that a wide receiver is dominant. But just about every time Rogers was on the field, he was best player in the game.
He was worth the second overall pick in 2003. Once he turned pro, nothing good ever seemed to happen for Rogers. His career was riddled by laziness, injuries and substance abuse. He was out of the NFL by the time he was 25. Charles Rogers. How sad.
