Via Twitter, Jerry Crasnick reports that the Giants "are letting teams know OF Nate Schierholtz is available. He could be odd-man out when Andres Torres returns from Achilles injury."
Report: Giants’ Nate Schierholtz On Trade Block
Schierholtz has a few things going for him. He bats left-handed, unlike Pat Burrell, Aaron Rowand, and Cody Ross. He's younger than Burrell, Rowand, and Ross. He's a solid defensive outfielder.
Unfortunately for Schierholtz, he’s never actually hit right-handed pitchers well. And with Rowand and Burrell both off to good starts this season, and Ross still basking in the glow of last October, there’s just not room on the roster for a left-handed hitter who doesn’t hit right-handers.
If the Giants find a trading partner, it’ll be a team that needs a fifth outfielder, and probably a team run by a general manager who thinks Schierholtz, now 27, is finally ready to deliver on the promise made by his impressive career in the Pacific Coast League.
