Darren O’Day Injury Likely To Knock Rangers Reliever To DL

Recently, Texas Rangers reliever Darren O'Day has been battling hip soreness that made him unavailable for work. He threw a clean inning Tuesday night against the Blue Jays, but then Wednesday morning, he wrote the following on his Facebook page:

“Headed to the DL for a torn labrum in my left hip. Beyond that, I dont [sic] know much. Hopefully recovery will be quick, and I’ll be back on the mound in no time.”

The Rangers haven’t issued any confirmation, and say that O’Day is due to see a specialist. They say they’ll have more information prior to their game later Tuesday. But it seems curious that O’Day would write what he wrote if he weren’t sure about it, so a stint on the disabled list looks probable.

If O'Day does go on the DL, look for the Rangers to call up reliever Ryan Tucker. The right-handed Tucker is a former first-round pick with ten strikeouts in 11 innings with AAA Round Rock.
