Two of the New York Yankees’ coldest hitters got hot, CC Sabathia was CC Sabathia, and the Chicago White Sox pitching staff allowed 21 base runners as the Yankees won in a romp at home on Thursday night, 12-3.
White Sox Vs. Yankees: Swisher, Gardner Break Out Against Chicago
White Sox starter Edwin Jackson had a rocky third inning, giving up the first two runs of the game without allowing a hit. With four walks and a sacrifice fly from Robinson Cano, the Yankees had a 2-0 lead.
Two innings later, they put the game out of reach, scoring six times against three different pitchers. The first four hitters for New York hit for the cycle, with Brett Gardner hitting his third homer of the year, Eduardo Nunez doubling, Curtis Granderson tripling him home, and Nick Swisher breaking out of his slump with an RBI single.
More runs and walks would follow, and ... actually, the inning’s probably still going on right now if you wanted to turn on your TV and check it out.
Sabathia threw seven innings, striking out six and walking one. Jackson gave up six earned runs, and his ERA rose to 5.86.
The Yankees will host the Blue Jays over the weekend, while the White Sox head home to face the Baltimore Orioles.
