The Boston Red Sox were supposed to be one of the American League's best teams in 2011. For the first weekend of the season, they didn't look like it — and the Texas Rangers, still the defending AL champions, made sure the Red Sox' trip to Texas ended without a win.
Rangers Vs. Red Sox: Texas’ Homer-Heavy Attack Helps AL Champs Complete Sweep
The Rangers socked four home runs off Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz, including Ian Kinsler's and Nelson Cruz' third long balls through three games this season, en route to a 5-1 win that pushed them to 3-0 on the year and relegated Boston to an 0-3 start.
Matt Harrison scattered five hits and allowed one run over seven innings of work for the Rangers and earned his first win. Buchholz lasted 6.1 innings, and allowed just one hit that wasn't a homer.
This was a series to forget for the Red Sox, as their rotation was battered by Texas' powerful bats. And high-priced addition Carl Crawford was a virtual no-show in the season's first series, reaching base just three times in 12 plate appearances and contributing only one RBI to the Boston offense.
