The Daily Wiz, SB Nation’s Sporting Kansas City blog, has identified Aaron Galindo as the player owner Robb Heineman Tweeted about the team being close to signing on Monday. Galindo is a 28-year-old center back who has played for Chivas de Guadalajara of the Mexican Primera, Eintracht Frankfurt of the Bundesliga and the Mexican nation team.
Aaron Galindo Identified As Sporting Kansas City’s Mystery Signing
The Daily Wiz also believes that Heineman and Sporting KC technical director/head coach Peter Vermes have been working to bring Galindo into the fold for quite some time now. The long-time target signed a 4-year contract with CD Guadelajara in the winter of 2009, but was outright released at the end of the Bicentenario (spring 2010), despite still having two years left on his contract. The club and player are currently waging court battle over a reported $6 million dollar settlement.
Through three matches, it is pretty clear that SKC could use an upgrade on defense. They have allowed a league-worst eight goals, punctuated by their blowing a three-goal lead against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday. Galindo would, presumably, offer an instant upgrade.
