During a Tuesday matinee start against the Diamondbacks, Cubs starter Andrew Cashner had to leave a solid performance early due to tightness in his shoulder. He was sent for an MRI to find out what was the matter, and now on Wednesday, we find out he's landed on the disabled list.
Andrew Cashner Placed On DL With Rotator Cuff Strain
Cashner, it turns out, has a mild strain of his rotator cuff. It is, in general manager Jim Hendry’s words, “very mild,” but at this point the team is playing it safe and not trying to push it. Cashner will be shut down for ten days to two weeks, and then they’ll proceed from there. He’s not looking at surgery.
For the time being, Cashner will be replaced in the rotation by 23-year-old Casey Coleman. Coleman threw 57 innings a year ago as a rookie, posting a 4.11 ERA but a lousy 27/25 K/BB ratio over eight starts and 12 total appearances.
