After Tuesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn underwent a procedure to have his appendix removed. From ESPN's Buster Olney:
Adam Dunn Undergoes Appendectomy Following White Sox-Royals Game
Adam Dunn ... appendectomy overnight. [...]
From the White Sox, some better news on Dunn: He will be out up to five days; he had a laparoscopic procedure, and will travel with the team
A laparoscopic procedure is less invasive than most surgeries, as the incision is often as small as one centimeter. Olney is right to point to Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday, who was cleared to play within five days of his appendectomy.
During Tuesday night's game, Dunn went 0-for-4 with a walk and drove in a run. Brent Lillibridge pinch-ran for him in extra innings, but the slugger didn't appear to be in any obvious pain while on the field.
