You may have heard that the Boston Red Sox are now 0-6 after getting swept in three games by the Cleveland Indians. I think word has gotten around. Even though it is still impossibly early in the regular season, people are still freaking out and trying to identify what's wrong with God's alleged gift to baseball, and Sox blog Over The Monster really gets to the heart of how things have seemed from a partisan perspective:
Red Sox Vs. Indians: Boston Fans Search For Answers, Cleveland Fans Search For Attention
At thos point, it's just getting comical. The last out of the game today came on Darnell McDonald, pinch running for David Ortiz, actually overrunning second base and then falling down before he could retreat to safety. There are no words; there are no excuses.
There are no answers right now. I can cite BABIPs and RISP flukes, but plain and simple this team is playing like crap, and something needs to change. Dramatically.
Meanwhile, over at Let’s Go Tribe, one gets the sense that the author is tired of the Red Sox hogging all the attention while the Indians just wrapped up a three-game sweep of the preseason favorites for the AL pennant.
I give you 50 words about the Red Sox, and that's it. Lester pitched a gem, took a tough loss. Youkilis is now the Greek God of Butterfingers. Pedroia looked helpless against Rafael Perez, batting right-against-left, in a clutch situation in the 8th, deceiving the ump on a pathetic swinging third strike only to earn the right to make a pathetic groundout to the mound. That's it — see every other news outlet for another 10,000 words on these subjects. They suck, they don't suck — I really don't care, and neither do you.
Click through for the entire posts, and note that the latter takes you through Thursday’s events from an Indians fan’s perspective. Anyway, two things are for sure going forward:
(1) With the Red Sox preparing to host the Yankees, they'll need to shape up right quick or risk falling into an even bigger hole.
(2) With the Indians going on the road to meet the Mariners, they're not about to pull in any more attention than they already have any time soon, no matter how well they play.
