The Boston Red Sox are dominating the baseball headlines right now on account of their 0-6 record, but they aren't the only 0-6 team in the league, as the Tampa Bay Rays are also off to the most miserable start possible. The Rays lost to the Chicago White Sox by a 5-1 score on Thursday, and have now scored a total - a total - of just eight runs in six games.
Rays Vs. White Sox: Chicago Win Leaves Tampa Bay Fans Feeling Frustrated
The Rays came into the 2011 season with high expectations, so as you can imagine, their fans are wondering when this skid is going to end and the team will start playing playoff-caliber baseball like everybody thought they would. Over at DRays Bay, a certain tone comes across in the writing:
Good Gravy! I have been a die-hard Rays fan for over 6 years, and this last week has been the most painful experience in that stretch. The combination of high expectations and an exciting off-season have melded with the feces-stew of 2011, making the single most painful cocktail in baseball right now.
Yeah, the Red Sox are also 0-6, thank goodness, but that does not change the searing pain of watching talented baseball players lose day in and day out whilst the community of Rays fans begin killing each other in their insanity.
What the Rays do have going for them is that manager Joe Maddon is keeping a level head. After he watched his team lose again on Thursday, he gave a lot of credit to White Sox starter Edwin Jackson, saying:
Edwin had better command today then in his no-hitter against us last year. We weren’t pressing, he was that good. We will work thru this.
One assumes that the Rays will find their stride in due time, but the longer this goes on, the deeper the hole.
