Silver Medallion Holds Slight Edge In Santa Anita Derby Odds After Premier Pegasus, Jaycito Scratch

The Santa Anita Derby got off to a rough start before the horses even made it into the starter gates, losing two favorites in the days leading up to the race. Premier Pegasus, installed as the early favorite in the opening lines, was a scratch on Friday as oddsmakers scrambled to adjust. Jaycito was forced to scratch later in the day, leaving the Santa Anita Derby without two of its favorites.

The result is a wide-open field with a new favorite, Silver Medallion. At 7-2, Silver Medallion holds a slight edge over Anthony’s Cross, who now holds 4-1 odds to win on Saturday. Comma to the Top holds 5-1 odds, with Mr. Commons in at 8-1. A full set of odds for Saturday’s race can be found over at Bodog.

Post time for the Santa Anita Derby is 7:37 p.m. EDT. For more on the race, including a preview of the field, check out the rest of our Santa Anita Derby 2011 StoryStream. For all your horse racing needs, head over to SB Nation’s And Down the Stretch They Come.
