On Saturday, the New York Yankees' bullpen came through on the road to secure a SCORE win against the Boston Red Sox. Meanwhile, the Yankees' bats managed to put up at least six runs for the fifth time in eight games so far this season.
Yankees Vs. Red Sox: Russell Martin, Bullpen Give Yanks 9-4 Win
Russell Martin's three-run home run over the Green Monster in the fourth inning gave the Yankees a 5-1 lead. Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson added homers of their own, and Eric Chavez hit a pair of doubles.
Boston's bats were able to make headway against Yankees starter Ivan Nova, who couldn't get through the fifth inning. After Nova was chased, however, David Robertson, Joba Chamberlain, and Luis Ayala combined for 4.2 scoreless innings of relief work.
With this win, the Yankees improve to 5-3; meanwhile, the Red Sox fall to 1-7. The teams meet again to play the rubber match of the series at 8 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.
