Britton’s Finest Hour: Orioles Rookie Sends Rangers To First Loss

Zach Britton's first 13.2 innings as a major leaguer could hardly be better. The Baltimore Orioles rookie took the mound against baseball's last remaining undefeated team, the Texas Rangers, and pitched 7.2 innings of scoreless baseball. The Orioles won, 5-0, to improve to 6-1 on the season.

Britton allowed four hits -- three singles and a double -- while walking three and striking out two. He was pulled after his 103rd pitch, which came with two outs in the eighth inning. Jason Berken recorded the final four outs in a non-save situation to seal the win.

This is only the second start of Britton's career. On April 3rd, he gave up one run to the Rays in six innings of work to notch the win. A third-round pick in 2006, Britton made the team this Spring after recording a 2.70 ERA in 2010 between double-A and triple-A.

On the offensive side of the ball for the Orioles, Nick Markakis smacked his first home run of the season, while Mark Reynolds recorded two hits, three RBI, and a run.
