Jered Weaver Ill, Scratched From Sunday Start
Jered Weaver's been scratched from today's start due to illness ... Tyler Chatwood gets the start vs Rays.
This isn't a real problem for the Angels, as Weaver will presumably be pushed back just one day and start against the Red Sox Monday night in Boston.
It’s a nice break for the Rays, though, as they try to keep their recent surge going. Weaver’s been the best pitcher in the league this season, with a 0.99 ERA in his six starts. Tyler Chatwood’s got a solid 3.86 ERA, but the rookie has walked 15 hitters in 23 innings, with only 10 strikeouts.
Meanwhile, the Rays will start a rookie of their own, with Alex Cobb making his major-league debut. Called up for just one start, due to the Rays' doubleheader last week, Cobb's been pitching brilliantly this spring in his first triple-A stint, with a 2.05 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 22 innings.
