Andrew Bynum Suspended For Five Games For Hit In Lakers’ Season-Ending Loss

Andrew Bynum has been suspended for the first five games of the 2011-12 season after a flagrant foul on J.J. Barea in the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers' season-ending loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, the NBA announced Tuesday. Bynum was also fined $25,000 for his actions after the foul, which would appear to be taking off his jersey while crossing the court to the Lakers' tunnel.

Bynum was hit with a Flagrant-2 and immediately ejected after throwing a forearm into an airborne Barea's chest while the Mavericks led by more than 30. In March, Bynum was ejected and suspended for two games after a similar play against Michael Beasley of the Minnesota Timberwolves. While Barea was able to stay in the game (despite laying on the court for a long moment), Beasley had been knocked out of action.

Bynum apologized to Barea in his exit interview with the media in Los Angeles on Tuesday, and said the hit didn’t represent him or his team.
