New York Mets first baseman Ike Davis had a good start to Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies, ripping a two-run single in the first inning, but he left limping in the fourth inning after colliding with David Wright while trying for an infield pop fly. The injury is currently described as a left calf strain, with an MRI scheduled for Wednesday. According to Steve Popper of the Bergen Record, we shouldn't expect any real news until then:
Ike Davis Injury: Strained Calf Puts Mets’ Slugger On Shelf
Ike Davis is flying back to New York to be examined by Mets team doctors. No update expected today. It’s hard to tell exactly what happened with the injury...
... other than two large grown men colliding. Davis did limp back to his position, but eventually realized he just couldn’t stay in the game. Right now he’s officially listed as day-to-day, but considering that he was walking around in a boot after last night’s game, a trip to the disabled list seems somewhat likely.
In Davis’s absence, Daniel Murphy is likely to slide from second base to first, with Justin Turner playing second.
