Yankees setup reliever Rafael Soriano has famously struggled out of the gate this season, and on Tuesday night he wasn't brought into a game in his usual spot. Instead, he was off for an MRI on his arm, and whispers rapidly began to circulate. Was he hurt? How badly was he hurt? If he was hurt, that would explain the poor peformance.
Rafael Soriano Has Mild Inflammation In Elbow
The Yankees, though, called the MRI precautionary, and the results of the exam aren’t bad.
Soriano day to day. MRI shows inflammation. Catch tomorrow.
There’s inflammation in there, but no damage, and given that pretty much any pitcher will show inflammation in his elbow if you take a close enough look at it, this is essentially nothing. Soriano’s day-to-day and he’ll get some rest, but he should be back in action before long, for better or worse.
It’s worth noting that Soriano hasn’t allowed a run over his past four appearances, although those appearances stretch over just 3.2 innings. On the year, he has nine runs, nine walks, and nine strikeouts in 14 frames.
