Less than a week ago, Yankees reserve infielder Eric Chavez was placed in a walking boot after he suffered what was diagnosed as a fractured fifth metatarsal while running the bases. He was to wear the boot for the following two weeks before being re-evaluated. But now this! What is this madness!
Eric Chavez Loses Walking Boot, Nearing Return To Yankees
Eric Chavez has gotten the boot off his injured left foot, and is working out in the weight room and the pool, as he waits to be cleared to resume baseball activities.
It turns out that, while Chavez was originally thought to have a fracture, further investigation showed that it was only a bruise. A pretty bad bruise, mind you, but only a bruise, which is why he’s so far ahead of schedule. Which is a rare thing to be able to say about Eric Chavez.
At this point, it’s looking like Chavez is only a few weeks away from being able to return to the Yankees’ bench. That timetable isn’t set in stone, but then, few things are. Who sets things in stone anymore?
