Carlos Ruiz Coming Off Disabled List, Brian Schneider Going On

The Philadelphia Phillies are apparently using the take-a-catcher, leave-a-catcher tray of the universe, because as their starting catcher Carlos Ruiz is set to come off the disabled list, his backup, Brian Schneider, is about to go on the DL. The confirmation came from MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

Ruiz felt a shooting pain from his back down to his leg on April 27th, and while the Phillies were optimistic he could come back after resting for a couple of days, the pain didn’t subside, forcing the trip to the DL.

Schneider is going on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring that he suffered while running the bases on Wednesday night. The backup catcher should be out for two to three weeks.

Dane Sardinha, who was put on the roster when Ruiz went on the DL, gets to avoid bus rides for another few weeks, as he will stay up and serve as Ruiz's backup in Schneider's absence.

Ruiz was off to a bit of a slow start by his standards, hitting .226/.310/.371 in 62 at-bats.
