Green Bay Packers Are Aaron Rodgers’ Team But What About Matt Flynn’s Future?

In Week 15 of the 2010 NFL season, QB Aaron Rodgers was out with a concussion so the Green Bay Packers turned to third-year QB Matt Flynn to lead them against the New England Patriots. Surprisingly, Flynn looked very strong setting career highs with 251 passing yards, three touchdowns and just one interception.

That performance catapulted him into the offseason quarterback trade rumors. For his part, Flynn says he’s not worried about the trade speculation surrounding him because he likes where he is right now, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.

"It's all kind of speculation right now, of what people want to write or whatever they want to say. You can't say that anybody wants me or doesn't want me. We'll see what happens. I just like where I am right now."

(That Super Bowl ring probably doesn’t hurt his current situation.)

With the NFL lockout, teams haven’t had free agency to bolster their rosters so someone like Flynn is a little more valuable in a poor quarterback market. He’s young and the one game of extended action we’ve seen produced a solid performance. Flynn says he knows this is Rodgers’ team “for a long time” so there’s not much of a future in Green Bay outside of being a backup

It’ll be interesting to see what happens when the league is back open for business and teams start thinking about making trades. What may hurt him in the trade market is that there was a run on quarterbacks early in the 2011 NFL draft so there aren’t as many teams on the market for a quarterback.

But for those teams that are looking, Flynn has to at least be on their radar.
