Matthew Barnaby Arrested, Pleads Not Guilty To Four Charges

Matthew Barnaby made a career of beating people up, and in his post-hockey life as an analyst for ESPN, he’s been known as one who doesn’t pull any punches with his commentary.

It appears that extends beyond the hockey realm.

Barnaby was arrested on Friday night after a domestic dispute between his estranged wife and another man, although WIVB in Buffalo reports that nobody was injured seriously despite a good dose of property damage.

He was arraigned in Amherst, N.Y. court on Saturday morning and released after pleading not guilty to felony criminal mischief, criminal contempt, criminal trespass, harassment and aggravated harassment. According to the Buffalo News, the felony charge comes with a possible four-year prison sentence, if he’s convicted.

Barnaby has worked with ESPN since 2008, when he took over as the network's top hockey analyst when Barry Melrose took a coaching job with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He got his broadcast career started with Time Warner Cable Sportsnet in Upstate New York in 2007, when he co-hosted a show with fellow ex-enforcer Rob Ray.
