Open Race Thread: NASCAR Sprint Cup FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks | Dover International Speedway

I’ve always liked Dover. I think it is a unique one mile track - and boy is it fast! Oh and when you hit the wall, you hit it hard, you need only to look back at yesterday to see what I’m talking about.

Let’s just hope that today’s race keeps the drivers and crew members safe. Perhaps some good can come out of yesterday’s late race wreck and NASCAR can go back and reflect on what went right with that crash (i.e. safer barries) and what went wrong (i.e. spring from Bowyer’s car flying across pit road striking one of his own crew members) and come up with some new safety features/protocols for those who are in the pits during the race.

The starting line-up can be found here (via nascar.com) and you will notice that even though qualifying was rained out the starting order doesn’t go line-up with the Owner Points. This is because NASCAR has a new procedure for rained-out qualifying sessions and they will now set the field based on practice speeds. I like this, because it could potentially put some of the teams high in the standings near the back of the field.

Let’s hope the weather holds out and we get the race in.
