Groin Strain Lands Blake Hawksworth On DL

Dodgers reliever Blake Hawksworth hasn't pitched in a game since May 10, when he strained his groin. An MRI revealed the strain and a hip impingement, and when Scott Elbert was promoted to replace Hong-Chih Kuo, the initial assumption was that he'd be replacing Hawksworth instead.

It ended up that the Dodgers considered Hawksworth day-to-day and didn't want to place him on the disabled list that quickly, but now, as Hawksworth hasn't made the desired amount of progress, he has finally been DL'd.

Hawksworth shouldn't be gone long, but the righty did have a 3.12 ERA through 17.1 innings as a reliever capable of throwing multiple frames at a time, so he'll be missed a little. In his place, the Dodgers have called up Javy Guerra. The 25-year-old righty has spent the season with AA Chattanooga, whiffing 15 and walking five in 17 innings of work. He is unlikely to see many high-leverage innings for as long as he's up.
