Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was a late scratch on Sunday due to soreness in his right knee, which also caused him intermittent problems during April. He was sent for the standard MRI, and the results are both good and bad. Mark Bowman:
Chipper Jones Has Small Tear In Right Knee
Chipper had an MRI exam this afternoon. Showed a small meniscus tear in right knee. Had cortisone shot. Hope is this will provide relief.
Chipper will likely miss next couple of days. Doctors hoping to avoid having to scope the knee.
Seeing the word “tear” in there is alarming, especially given Jones’ history with his knees, but this isn’t a major tear, and it’s possible that Jones’ll be just fine in a few days after the cortisone shot. If not, he’ll have to undergo a minor procedure that would require a trip to the disabled list.
Jones has batted .275 on the year with with plenty of walks and an .831 OPS, so the Braves obviously love having him in the lineup. He was replaced on Sunday by Brooks Conrad, who has not had a good start to the year, but who did hit well a season ago.
