Cleveland Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore injured his leg sliding into second base last Tuesday night, and he was diagnosed with a right-knee contusion. He went in for an MRI, and when the MRI came back clean, everybody exhaled a little bit, and Sizemore was considered day-to-day.
Grady Sizemore Goes On Disabled List After Injured Knee Doesn’t Improve
And the Indians waited ... and waited ... and Sizemore's knee didn't get better. Rather than rush the talented-yet-fragile star back, the team put him on the disabled list retroactive to May 11. In Sizemore's place, the Indians have recalled Travis Buck from Triple-A Columbus
Sizemore was off to a fantastic start to 2011 after missing the beginning of the season recovering from left-knee surgery last season, hitting .282/.333/.641 in 84 at-bats with six home runs. There was something aesthetically pleasing about a rejuvenated Sizemore leading a rejuvenated Indians club, but the center fielder’s body just can’t seem to stay intact.
Considering that the Indians were reluctant to put Sizemore on the DL at first, it’s likely that he’ll be ready to come off close to when he’s eligible, which would be next Wednesday.
Michael Brantley will get most of the time in center field now, with Shelley Duncan, Austin Kearns, and Buck fighting for time in left.
