England Set For Extra Europa League Place

Fulham look set to find a way into the Europa League despite currently being in 8th place in the Premier League thanks to UEFA's Respect Fair Play ranking, which gives extra spots to leagues and teams with the best disciplinary records in Europe. England rank second behind Norway with a week left to play, and UEFA has confirmed their extra slot, which looks set to go to the London club, with Blackpool their only realistic challengers. If Fulham manage to get a player sent off next week, Blackpool might sneak in, which would be a pretty amusing scenario.

For those readers who find the concept of awarding Fulham a European place because Clint Dempsey never gets caught elbowing people in the face they play nicely a slightly odd one, you're not alone, but weirder than that is the fact that UEFA somehow thinks it can compare 'fair play' across leagues. They have different referees and refereeing standards, UEFA. This is ridiculous.
