He hasn't even played a game yet but QB Colin Kaepernick has already had surgery. Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports Kaepernick, the San Francisco 49ers second round pick, had surgery on his lower left leg shortly after the 2011 NFL draft.
49ers QB Colin Kaepernick Had Surgery On Leg After NFL Draft
The situation is described as a “minor surgical procedure” and Kaepernick says it won’t affect him at all while the 49ers issued a statement indicating they knew of his health condition and have no worries about it. In a phone interview with Barrows, Kaepernick declined to go into the details of the surgery but noted it’s a condition that he had during the final four games of the 2010 college football season and throughout the offseason process and it hasn’t seemed to affect him there.
When asked if this would slow him down, Kaepernick said:
"Not at all," he said. "I don't feel like it's going to slow me down at all. I'll be ready for the season, ready for training camp. I'll be ready."
And in a statement, the 49ers said:
"The 49ers are aware that Colin Kaepernick underwent a procedure to address a pre-existing injury and were fully aware of the injury at the time of the draft. The 49ers have no concerns regarding his health and are confident that he will be ready for the 2011 NFL season."
Kaepernick and the 49ers can’t communicate but the timing of the lockout may actually be helpful to Kaepernick in this instance. He has a little more time to heal although it doesn’t sound like there’s much recovery involved with this procedure.
