As you’ve likely heard by now, in his Monday Morning QB column on SI yesterday, Peter King ran with a report about the Skins and Steelers negotiating a trade on draft day that fell through. The report turned out to be completely false — it originated from a tweet and King apparently did nothing to confirm the tweet before including it in one of the most widely read football columns on earth.
Peter King Explains Mishap, Wishes Internet Would Tell The Truth
King went on air with his good buddy Mike Florio to talk about the mishap on Monday. But instead of discussing what King did (i.e. how irresponsible it was, and how that could happen in the first place), the conversation devolved into what-ifs about the reported trade. You know, the one that wasn’t even true to begin with.
Although King was able to express disappointment that you have to double-check things you read on the internet nowadays (via D.C. Sports Bog):
“It’s one of those things that unfortunately makes you kind of doubt even more of what you read on the Internet, I think. You know, that you have to check two plus two equals four these days.”
The point: you have missed it.
