Estudiantes de la Plata captain Juan Sebastian Veron will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury after scans revealed that he would be forced to undergo arthroscopic heel surgery. The extent of the midfielder's injury was confirmed by club doctor Hugo Montenegro on Tuesday:
Juan Sebastian Veron Heel Injury Will Sideline Estudiantes Captain For Rest Of Season
After completing tests with a new scan... we saw the muscle was quite weak so we’re going to operate, (do) an arthroscopy of the heel.
It’s been a difficult season for Veron and Estudiantes, and the 36 year old has been unable to significantly contribute to their title defence due to the persistence of his heel problem, which has apparently been bothering him for months. He’ll now miss the last five games of the season, but this is the sort of thing that can mean retirement for a player of his age. Hopefully cleaning his foot out will mean at a least a couple more years of Veron gracing us with his presence on the pitch.
