Vicente Padilla Injury: Forearm Discomfort Puts Dodgers’ New Closer On Disabled List

Another day, another member of the Los Angeles Dodgers' bullpen goes down hard. After closer Jonathan Broxton hit the Disabled List with elbow problems, and Hong-Chih Kuo was placed on the DL for an anxiety disorder, Vicente Padilla was the default choice to close games. The vortex got him too, though, as forearm discomfort sidelined him for the past three games, and Thursday the Dodgers decided not to wait around for him, adding him to their now-extensive DL.

To fill Padilla's place on the roster, the Dodgers recalled right-handed reliever Ramon Troncoso, who pitched in 52 games for them last year, but was optioned this season after giving up six earned runs in 2-2/3 innings. He was pitching poorly in triple-A, too, with a 4.91 ERA, three home runs allowed, and a lousy K/BB ratio.

To take over Padilla's place in the bullpen hierarchy, though, the Dodgers will likely turn to Matt Guerrier, who picked up a save on Tuesday against the Brewers but got hung with a loss on Wednesday against the Giants.

Next up on the Dodgers’ bullpen depth chart: John “Stumpy” Pepys.
