Carlos Gonzalez Injury: Rockies Outfielder Pulled From Game

Having fallen into second place in the NL West after a red-hot start, the Colorado Rockies have lately been facing some tough times. The times might now get tougher still. In Thursday night's game against the Phillies, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez tweaked his groin running down a fly ball and had to be taken out, with Ryan Spilborghs taking over.

There’s no word yet on the severity of the injury, and there are no indications that it’s something significant, but groin injuries are tricky little devils that don’t always heal the way as quickly as you would like, so a DL stint is not out of the question. The Rockies will surely provide an update later Thursday night or sometime Friday.

Gonzalez has had a disappointing season to date, with a .245 average and only five home runs. But considering what he did a year ago, not to mention his new seven-year, $80 million contract, the expectation remains that he’ll be a force in the middle of the order. So he’ll leave a void for however long he’s out, if he does miss any time.
