St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese will miss more time than initially expected with a broken hand. From B.J. Rains of FOXSportsMidwest:
David Freese Will Miss 9-12 Weeks
Cards GM John Mozeliak says Freese will be out 9-12 weeks. Not expected back until late July.
Freese had a plate inserted in his left hand, which was injured by an errant fastball from Scott Linebrink. While the break was first described as "clean", it was later described as significant.
Tony La Russa addressed the media early in the day, and mentioned that Freese would be out six to eight weeks, but Cardinals GM Jon Mozeliak amended that statement, saying the Cards would take the cautious route and expect Freese to be out until after the All-Star break.
With both Freese and Skip Schumaker on the shelf, the Cardinals have been getting a lot of work out of Daniel Descalso, Tyler Greene, and Nick Punto. After Freese's hit-by-pitch, even Albert Pujols put in a few innings at third.
