Former West Ham United striker Paolo di Canio has lined up a managerial job for himself, but it won't be at Upton Park, where there's still a vacancy. Instead, the controversial Italian will be taking his range of talents to League Two side Swindon Town, replacing Paul Hart (who managed to get them relegated last season).
Paolo Di Canio Appointed As New Manager Of Swindon Town
This is di Canio’s first managerial appointment, and while he’s been known for his brilliant play he has also stirred up trouble as well, first receiving an eleven match ban for pushing referee Paul Alcock to the floor in 1998 and also flashing fascist salutes (he openly endorses facism and expresses admiration for the work of Benito Mussolini) during Italian league matches.
Despite the controversy, di Canio remains a legend at several clubs around the world, and he has expressed a desire to one day manage West Ham. That day isn’t today, but if he does well with Swindon I can’t imagine it’ll be too long before he moves up the ladder. Will he do well there? I have absolutely no idea.
