Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun, who hurt his left shoulder on Wednesday night in San Diego, tried to play through it on Thursday and instead, left the Brewers' 1-0 loss to the Padres in the fifth inning, according to mlb.com.
Ryan Braun Leaves Game With Shoulder Soreness
Braun’s shoulder was hurt on a swing during the Wednesday night game, and he thought he could play through it, but could not make it through the finale of the abbreviated two-game Padres/Brewers series. He singled and stole second base in the first inning, popped up foul in the third and hit another pop fly out in the fifth before leaving the game.
The injury isn't expected to keep Braun out for any length of time, but the Brewers, who were expected to be serious contenders in the NL Central, can ill afford to lose Braun, one of their best hitters. Milwaukee is struggling with a 21-23 record, 4.5 games behind the division-leading Reds, and Braun is off to a fine start, hitting .304/.396/.584 with a National League leading 12 home runs.
Interleague play begins this weekend, but there is always one NL-only series, and it'll be in Milwaukee as the Brewers host the Rockies.
