French Open 2011: Andy Roddick Withdraws With Shoulder Injury

When the French Open 2011 gets underway on Sunday, it will have one less familiar face in the draw. Andy Roddick, America’s best (yet probably unrealistic) hope to win a grand slam, has withdrawn from the tournament. Roddick is still suffering from a shoulder injury that forced him to pull out of the doubles event at the Italian Open and the singles at the Open de Nice.

With Roddick out and no other legit American contenders in, it appears as if the U.S. men’s drought of 29 straight grand slams without a title will reach 30. This would tie the longest grand slam-less streak in American tennis history. The last American to win a slam? Roddick, back in 2003 at the U.S. Open.

For more on the action at Roland Garros, you can check out the French Open 2011 draws and also the French Open 2011 TV schedule. Play begins Sunday at 5 a.m. ET, so set those alarm clocks accordingly.
