Alex White Injury: Mysterious Finger Injury Lands Cleveland Rookie On DL
Indians right-hander Alex White, the 15th overall draft pick in 2009, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday because of middle-finger soreness.
White injured the finger in the third inning of his start Friday night against the Reds at Progressive Field.
White remained in the game after hurting his finger, and actually finished off that hitter with a strikeout. But, unable to throw his slider, White walked the next three hitters and was removed shortly thereafter.
With Mitch Talbot scheduled to come off the DL very soon, Manny Acta was going to have to decide which young starter to keep on the roster: White or Carlos Carrasco. Neither has pitched particularly well this season, but Carrasco's got more experience and White's struggled with his control. Anyway, it's moot now. You hate to lose anybody, but with Talbot rejoining the rotation the Indians shouldn't miss White much at all, in the short term.
