Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal, who broke his left thumb on April 11 and has been on the disabled list since then, will be activated from the disabled list, according to Ken Gurnick, via Twitter; Furcal was in Chicago for workouts in front of Dodger staff on Saturday, according to mlb.com, and passed all the training staff's tests, despite a minor knee bruise suffered while he was on rehab assignment to Albuquerque.
Rafael Furcal Activated By Dodgers; Juan Uribe To DL
That move is just in time for the Dodgers, too, because infielder Juan Uribe is headed to the DL to take Furcal's place there.
Manager Don Mattingly sounded exasperated at the thought of a 15th or 16th disabling injury, mostly because he's running out of players. Uribe was playing second base instead of third Friday night because Aaron Miles is suffering from a strained left rib-cage muscle that could also send him to the DL.
The article also notes that out of the nine infielders on LA’s 40-man roster, the only one who isn’t on the 25-man roster or the DL is Ivan DeJesus Jr., who is at Albuquerque and who has played in the major leagues this season. The way things are going for the Dodgers, he could be back soon too. The Dodgers finish up their interleague series with the White Sox Sunday afternoon.
