In a start last Friday, Cleveland Indians rookie Alex White developed soreness in his middle finger. He tried to pitch through the discomfort, but wound up throwing wildly, and he was removed after three innings. White had an MRI on his hand on Saturday, and we get the results via the Indians on Twitter:
Alex White To Miss 8-12 Weeks With Strained Ligament In Finger
Alex White out 8 to 12 weeks with a strained ligament in his right middle finger.
It’s a more significant injury than many assumed, and White won’t return until after the All-Star break. It’s rough luck for Cleveland’s top pitching prospect, who had allowed five runs through his first two starts. On the plus side, better for a pitcher to injure his finger than his elbow or his shoulder.
White's spot in the rotation will be assumed by Mitch Talbot, who has been on the disabled list with an elbow strain. One wonders if anything will be able to slow down the Indians, who moved to 29-15 on Sunday after completing a sweep of the Reds.
