Glen Perkins Injury: Twins Setup Man Hits DL With Oblique Strain

Not a whole lot has gone right for the Minnesota Twins so far this season, but one bright spot has been the work of southpaw Glen Perkins, who has blossomed in the bullpen. The one-time starter has thrown 22-2/3 innings over 22 appearances, with 22 strikeouts, nine walks, and a 1.59 ERA. But just because this is 2011 and the Twins aren't allowed to have any positives, Perkins has now been placed on the disabled list with an oblique strain.

Perkins is the latest player to fall victim to the popular injury, and he’s expected to miss the standard 2-4 weeks, as obliques need to heal completely, lest they nag.

In Perkins' place, the Twins have recalled lefty Dusty Hughes. Hughes was up earlier in the season, when he allowed 12 runs in 10-2/3 innings. He's made a few appearances with AAA Rochester since being demoted, and the Twins selected him on account of his undeniable left-handedness.
