Tim Hudson Injury: Stiff Back Knocks Him From Wednesday Start
Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez announced before Sunday's rubber match against the Angels that Tim Hudson would miss his next scheduled start on Wednesday in Pittsburgh because of a stiff back. Hudson flew back to Atlanta on Sunday, and Gonzalez said he'd be examined by team doctors on Monday as a precautionary measure.
Hudson's not expected to land on the DL, and Hudson is expected to make his next scheduled start on May 30. But considering his struggles in his last three starts, it's premature to assume he'll pitch again this month. With Brandon Beachy already on the DL and replaced by rookie Julio Teheran, Mike Minor will start in Hudson's place on Wednesday.
Minor was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett after one bad start for the Braves in early April; since then, he’s posted a 2.56 ERA with an excellent strikeout-to-walk ratio, reestablishing himself as a solid prospect.
