Minnesota Twins slugger Jim Thome strained his oblique April 24, and played one game after that, on April 30, before going on the disabled list. When he was put on the disabled list, the Twins reeled off a three-game winning streak. If he started to feel like he wasn't needed, though, he needn't have worried, as the Twins then dropped nine in a row. The Twins, who have averaged -1.3 runs per game this season, were desperate for any sort of offense.
Jim Thome Returns From Disabled List
They’ll get their DH back, at least, with the Twins activating Thome on Sunday.
The return of Thome presents a little bit of a quandary for the Twins, though, who have been using Jason Kubel at DH with an outfield of Delmon Young, Denard Span, and Michael Cuddyer. Kubel has been hitting well, as has Span. Cuddyer is struggling a little bit, and Young is hitting like a pitcher. It's possible that Young will see more time on the bench, but it's more likely that the Twins will continue with Operation Clank and put Michael Cuddyer at second base to get Thome's bat in the lineup.
