Ian Poulter rolled in a six-foot par putt on the 17th hole Sunday to beat Luke Donald, 2 & 1, and win the Volvo World Match Play Championship.
Poulter earned his 11th European Tour title and denied Donald the top spot in the world rankings.
"I finally started holing some putts. I've been frustrated for a few months and you have to hole putts to win," Poulter said.
Donald, who had won his previous 12 match-play matches dating to last year's Ryder Cup, would have become the No. 1 player in the world if he had won this title.
Donald had the lead on three separate occasions, but Poulter took the lead for good with a birdie on the 14th.
