Portland Trail Blazers Fire General Manager Rich Cho After One Season On Job

Another year, another shocking firing in the hierarchy of the Portland Trail Blazers. Just 11 months after the team fired Kevin Pritchard as their general manager, the Blazers have parted ways with his replacement, Rich Cho. The team announced the move in a text message. The Portland Trail Blazers announced today that they have parted ways with Rich Cho, the team's general manager of basketball operations.

"The fit between Rich and our team simply wasn't right," said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller. "This was a tough move because I respect Rich and he's a good person with many strong skills. But it simply wasn't a good match."

This is stunning, because Cho did an excellent job by all accounts. His midseason trade for Charlotte's Gerald Wallace was the catalyst for a late-season run that propelled the Blazers to the playoffs and allowed them to put up a fight against the Dallas Mavericks, who are just two games from the NBA Finals. His team won 48 games despite devastating injuries to Brandon Roy and Greg Oden. It's hard to expect much more from Cho, who came over from Oklahoma City last summer.

It’s possible a dispute involving Roy led to Cho’s ouster. John Canzano of the Oregonian reported last Friday that Cho wanted to suspend Roy for comments he made about his lack of playing time in the playoffs. Roy ultimately got minutes and carried Portland to a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback in Game 4 vs. the Mavericks.
