In a start against the Rays on Monday, Tigers lefty Phil Coke stumbled getting off the mound to field a bunt by Ben Zobrist. It was clear he was hurt, and the initial suggestion was that he had rolled his ankle, but a later exam revealed a bone bruise, as one bone in Coke's foot collided with another. The bone bruise is sufficiently bad that Coke has been placed on the disabled list.
Phil Coke Injury: Bone Bruise Sends Tigers Starter To DL

The injury’s not considered serious and Coke should be fine by the end of his DL stint.
Coke has thrown 52 innings this season, with 16 walks, 30 strikeouts, and a 3.81 ERA. He’s been a decently effective back-of-the-rotation starter after spending last year in the Tigers’ bullpen. His rotation slot will be assumed by 23-year-old lefty Andy Oliver. Oliver is one of the Tigers’ better pitching prospects, and in eight starts with AAA Toledo, he’s posted a 3.26 ERA and averaged a strikeout an inning.
